Gallery Weekend | 11-13 October

11-13 October | 11am - 6pm

Autumn is definitely upon us and we can all look forward to spending more time indoors. Luckily our next gallery weekend is coming up soon and it will have two main themes. The first is National Appraisal Day on the Saturday, where we will be joined by three other experts to do free quick appraisals of antiques, paintings and jewellery. On Sunday we will host a mini lecture on Tang period ceramics for which you can register. We look forward to welcoming you with your appraisal object or for the lecture.

Gallery Weekend | Program

National Appraisal Day - Nationale Dag van Waarde
Saturday 12 October | 11am - 4pm
On National Appraisal Day we will be opening our doors for you to meet four appraisal experts, Isabelle Hustinx (general art & antiques), Mart van Drunen (jewellery), Willem de Winter (19th & 20th Century paintings & sculpture) and our very own Floris van der Ven (Asian art). We invite you to bring your heirloom, flea market find or attic discovery to find out if you have treasure or trash!

Walk & Talk
Sunday 13 October | 3pm
Inspired by the upcoming exhibition in the Princessehof on Tang Empress Wu Zetian, this month’s Walk & Talk will focus on Tang Dynasty ceramics. We will be discussing the various objects, materiality, its uses and production techniques. To join the talk please register via office@vanderven.com.

Upcoming Museum Exhibition

Exhibition Wu Zetian; The only female emporer of China
The Princessehof, Leeuwarden | 26 October 2024 - 25 May 2025

In the almost 2000-year existence of the Chinese empire, all the rulers were men, Empress Wu Zetian (624-705) being the only exception. This exhibition brings her extraordinary story, filled with stories about trade, emancipation and intrigue, to life through the most beautiful ceramic objects.
